A man who was highly intoxicated outside Voodoo - and who refused to heed directions from Gardaí to go home has been fined €150.
Patrick Douglas, 44, with an address at 26 Booterstown, Dunmore Road, Waterford was charged with being intoxicated in a public place - and refused to give Gardaí his name and address.
Gardaí observed Mr Douglas in a highly intoxicated state outside Voodoo Venue.
Gardaí asked Mr Douglas to move on and go home - but Mr Douglas refused and starting to heed any directions from Gardaí.
The court heard that all Mr Douglas seemed interested in was getting the Gardaí identification number of Garda Gerard James Fee.
His behaviour became more erratic and when he refused to leave the area - Garda Fee had no other option but to the arrest the defendant.
Solicitor for the defendant Patsy Gallagher told the court that Mr Douglas deeply regretted the incident - and was unreservedly apologetic for how he behaved.
Patsy Gallagher said, "He had travelled up for his brother's 40th party - and he consumed a significant amount of alcohol.
"His behaviour was totally out of character for him - and he has absolutely no recollection of the night in question.
"He has acknowledged his behaviour was unacceptable and realises he should have had more sense.
The court also heard that Mr Douglas was a qualified site engineer and owns his own company.
He had been in contact regularly with Garda Fee and had travelled up from Waterford for today's case.
Judge Paul Kelly fined him €150 and ordered to pay it to St Vincent De Paul.
