Gardaí have received post-mortem results and a toxicology report relating to a fatal house fire in Doochary, Co. Donegal.

On Tuesday April 12th 2022, a woman in her 80s was found dead in a house in Coolvoy, Doochary. Her son, aged in his 60s, is being held on suspicion of criminal damage.

The outstanding documents have now been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who will determine the course of the case involving the accused, Guenter Lohse. The German national, aged 61, is currently in custody in Castlerea Prison having been charged in connection with the fire, which resulted in the death of his mother, Ruth Lohse.

Sergeant Dalton told the Letterkenny District Court that it could take a month for directions to be given by the DPP.

Lohse, charged with arson with intent to endanger life, appeared for a brief hearing before Judge Éiteáin Cunningham via videolink.

Judge Cunningham adjourned the matter until the September 26 sitting of Letterkenny District Court.
