Jason Haughey was released amidst a heavy Garda presence after appearing at Letterkenny District Court this morning.

However his solicitor Patsy Gallagher asked for his client to be remanded until February 24th to address matters.

Mr Gallagher claimed his client faced only one charge and was entitled to bail.

The court heard that Haughey of Pairc na hAluine, Buncrana, was asleep at an address in Buncrana and found with £32 in his pocket – believed by Gardai to come from recent burglaries.

Inspector Michael Harrison said he was objecting to bail because of the seriousness of the case and the fact that Haughey was unlawfully at large.

The court heard that Haughey had only day of a previous sentence to serve.

Another man is also due to appear in court charged with a number of alleged incidents at Cloncool Park.

Mr Gallagher said there was a certain element of a ‘lynch mob’ mentality surrounding his client.

But Judge Paul Kelly said there was no ‘lynch mob’ in his court.

He released Haughey, who has a number of previous convictions on his own cash bond of €100 and an independent surety of €500.

The case was adjourned until March to hear a direction from the Director of Public Prosecutions in the case.

However solicitor Patsy Gallagher made an application to have Haughey remanded to address the technical issue that his client is technically unlawfully at large.
