A DONEGAL man appeared before the High Court yesterday for alleged terrorism offences.
Brendan Emmet Casey (42) faces six charges, including conspiring to possess explosives and firearms with the intent to endanger life and cause damage.
Casey is also accused of engaging in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism, and attending at a place used for terrorist training, receiving training in how to make and use explosives for use in terrorism and being a membership of a prescribed organisation, namely the IRA.
Casey, of Ernedale Heights, Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, appeared before Mr Justice Richard Humphreys on Friday.
Gardaí attached to the Garda Extradition Unit arrested Casey on Thursday on foot of a Trade and Co-Operation Agreement warrant.
Detective Superintendent Michael Mullen of the Garda Extradition Unit said: “This significant arrest coordinated by Detectives attached to Organised and Serious Crime supported by local colleagues in Donegal reinforces the strong working relationship between An Garda Síochána and the Police Service of Northern Ireland in combating cross jurisdictional crime across the island of Ireland.”
No application was made for bail and the judge remanded Mr Casey in custody to appear before the High Court later this month
