A man who fell asleep in a Chinese restaurant and then abused Gardai when he was awoken has been ordered to pay €150 to charity.

Sean Ward of 14 Hilltop Crescent, Stranorlar was in Chinatown Restaurant on Letterkenny’s Port Road on February 8th last.

He was extremely intoxicated and staff were trying to lock up the premises.

When he was eventually awoken, Ward, aged 32, abused Gardai and staff.

He appeared at Letterkenny District Court today and was asked by Judge Paul Kelly if he had a drink problem.

Mr Ward, who has no previous convictions and is a mechanic by profession, denied he had a drink problem and said it was a one off occasion.

Judge Kelly ordered Ward to pay €150 to a Christmas charity rising funds for Pieta House and the Donegal Hospice.
