41Wf7RaCxGL._AC_UL320_SR270,320_A man has been fined €600 for throwing his iPhone 5 at a taxi - following a row with his girlfriend.

Ian Duffy, 26, from Convoy Road, Drumkeen pleaded guilty to the charges against him at a sitting of Letterkenny District Court this morning.

The court heard that when asked by Gardaí why he had carried out the offence - Duffy responded by saying, "Because that f***er was pissing me off."

The court heard how Duffy had a dispute with his girlfriend and became increasingly angry and annoyed with her - and that led him to throw the phone at the taxi.

The driver of the taxi appeared at court and presented an estimate of the damage from experts at Murray Motors - who said the cost to repair the damage to the vehicle would be €1,300.00.

Solicitor for the defendant Frank Dorrian refuted that throwing a mobile phone would've caused the amount of damage estimated to the vehicle.

Dorrian said his client was in full-time employment and regretted the unsavoury incident.

He didn't intend to hit the taxi - he just threw it out of anger and unfortunately it hit the side of the oncoming taxi.

"It was a stupid mistake, which was fuelled by alcohol.

Judge Paul Kelly was shown pictures of the damaged vehicle and he reiterated with Mr Dorrian that the cost estimated was excessive.

Judge Paul Kelly ordered the Mr Duffy to pay €600 in compensation.
